Father Tony sent me a news article from the New York Post reporting on a possible gay hate crime attack in which Tarlach MacNiallais, (pictured above with brother Brendan) was thrown out and beaten by bouncers employed at the Guadalajara De Noche a Mexican restaurant in Jackson Heights Queens, N.Y. Tarlach is a well known gay Irish American and a board member of ILGO who along with Speaker Quinn sought inclusion of GLBT's in the annual Saint Patricks Day Parade In New York.
During an interview Tarlach stated " he was punched and kicked and had a chair smashed over his head all because he was observed dancing with another man. He further alleged that the bouncer stated "you can't do that here this is not a gay bar".The NYPD is currently investigating this as a possible hate crime incident. I don't know the extent of any injuries but I hope Tarlach is recovering from any injuries he may have sustained.
Queens District Attorney Robert Brown only several weeks ago arraigned a man for a hate crime committed against a gay man Jack Price who was savagely beaten while exiting a deli. DA Brown stated in response to this horrific crime ; "As American each of us is free to chose where and how we want to live our lives".
Let's hope both Brown and the NYPD Detectives arrest and prosecute those persons responsible for assaulting Tarlach. As I was writting this Queerty is reporting the incident.
