Fight Back New York fights back against “Counter Punch”
Anti-Equality Group’s Video Sends Wrong Message on DV
NEW YORK, NY -- Earlier this week, an anti-equality group launched a
campaign called “Counter Punch” seemingly in response to Fight Back
New York, and included as part of the launch a video of a boxer and a
boxing glove repeatedly punching through a white plane.
“Releasing these kinds of imagery in the midst of a campaign where one
of the candidates, Hiram Monserrate, has been convicted of domestic
violence is insensitive and irresponsible,” said Valerie Berlin, a
spokesperson for Fight Back New York. “This group is basically sending
the message that they’d rather have a convicted abuser in office than
someone who votes for equal rights for gay and lesbian New Yorkers.
What a terrible example to set for the young men and women of the
thirteenth senate district.”
